Foot Orthotics
A unique service provided by Crescent City Physical Therapy (CCPT) is that of Physical Therapist Specialists in the Evaluation and Treatment of foot and ankle disorders, injuries and disabilities of the foot, ankle, lower extremity, back and dysfunction of the SI and pelvic girdle, whether the result of athletic injury or other accident or trauma.
Orthotics are fabricated to be placed into shoes to minimize biomechanical stress and strain on the foot and neighboring structures such as the ankle, knee, hip and low back. Orthotics will help to minimize musculoskeletal stress and to promote improved comfort for weight-bearing function.
Our physical therapists work closely with physicians who specialize in foot and ankle problems. Patients who are participants in weight-bearing athletic activities such as running, soccer, volleyball, tennis, football, and basketball comprise a large population of our patients for our orthotic fabrication, fitting and training services; however, teachers, nurses and other industrial workers who are "on their feet" much of their working day are very frequently our orthotic patients. Orthotics are commonly fabricated for patients of all ages whether teen, baby boomer so somewhere in between.
Orthotics are fabricated on-site following a Physical Therapy Orthotic Evaluation and then a second session for the fabrication and fitting. It is sometimes found at the time of Evaluation that the person will require physical therapy treatment to address muscular and soft tissue contractures, problems of range of motion flexibility, strength and general conditioning that must be addressed "up front" before an orthotic can be of value. Many times these problems have not previously been addressed, thus orthotics, by themselves, will not help to alleviate the stress and pain.
